The Creed is a block of stamped text on the patch inside the bag, with the serial usually on its last line. The drawing marks each part without copying the Creed's wording.
A patch from before 1994 has less to tell you. Its all-digit serial encodes no month, year or style number, so it places the bag in an era rather than a year.
Look inside the bag for the interior patch. The serial is usually the last line of its stamped text, often after "No." on older patches.
Some bags from 2014 onward carry the code on a small white tag inside the bag instead. Essex Fashion House says Coach did this from 2014 until 2016 and that the tag is often in a corner of an inner pocket. LoveToKnow dates the change to late 2014 and describes the tag sewn into a seam in a bottom corner or inside an interior pocket.
