Fendi serial number decoder

On most bags the guides describe, a Fendi serial number is a row of letters and digits on a leather tag inside the bag. Two guides each name a group of six characters: OPA Vintage shows one it calls the model number, and EcoRing Indonesia calls the first six characters the style number. None of the guides read for this page gives a way to read a year from it, and the Fendi pages read for this page do not mention a serial number. Type the number into the decoder to see its groups.

Type it with its dashes, dots or spaces, so the groups stay apart.

Enter the number and its groups appear here. What you enter is not uploaded. The reading runs in your browser.

A reading of the layout from published resale guides. It is not proof of age or authenticity, and it is not an appraisal.

Looking for a Fendi serial number checker? This decoder only splits the number into its groups, counts its characters and says what published guides call one of them. It does not check authenticity, look the number up in any Fendi record or say when a bag was made.

Vintage Bag Index is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Fendi.

Where to find the number

The Vintage Bar says that on newer styles the number is pressed into the back of the interior brand tag, or into a narrow leather tag that is most often stitched to a side seam of the interior pocket. Posh Bag Boutique says it is typically on the back of a leather tag in the main compartment, or on a narrower leather tag tucked into a seam.

Real Authentication calls it a production code of numbers and letters. It places the code on the back of the main logo tag, on a separate narrow leather tag in a corner or near a seam, and says vintage bags are the exception.

On older styles The Vintage Bar says the number is printed in metallic foil straight onto the lining of the interior pocket. The RealReal says vintage bags carry a style number, in metallic foil on an inside pocket or pressed into a leather tab, and Luxbags says older models have it printed on the interior zip pocket.

The RealReal says the wording on the interior tag depends on when a bag was made, and that the tag can be fabric or leather. This page reads the number, not the wording.

Type the number with its dashes, dots or spaces, so the groups stay apart.

What the number looks like

The guides in the table describe the same number and do not count it the same way. Two of them put a name to one group. Each guide keeps its own row.

Take 1234-0AB123-CD5-678, a made-up number. It has four groups and 16 letters and digits, or 19 with the three dashes counted. One group, 0AB123, is one digit, two letters and three digits, the shape of the group OPA Vintage calls the model number. The decoder labels that group and leaves the other three unnamed. None of it says when a bag was made.

These rows are fewer voices than they look. The Vintage Bar, Love That Bag etc, Posh Bag Boutique, Madison Avenue Couture and Luxbags repeat one set of figures, and Jewel Cafe and EcoRing Indonesia share a second text. OPA Vintage writes from its own experience and shows the bags it describes.

Not every number has letters in it. Three sold listings on The RealReal, each linked in the sources below, print Fendi numbers of 11 or 12 digits in three groups, joined by dots, dashes or spaces. The listings give no date for the bags, and the decoder shows such a number in its groups without naming any.

What two guides call a group of six

Two separate guides each put a name to a group of six characters, in different places, and neither says whether it is the same group. The decoder finds a group by its shape and says nothing about position.

OPA Vintage shows two bags it dates to 2008. On each, the middle part of the number matches the start of the number marked ART on the shop card, and OPA Vintage calls that part the model number.

EcoRing Indonesia says the first six characters of the number are the style number.

On OPA Vintage's two bags that group is one digit, two letters and three digits, and the Product Code on the Fendi bag pages read for this page opens the same way. That shape is the one thing the decoder looks for.

None of the guides read for this page says what the other groups mean, and this page does not guess. It names no model for any group either.

Why this page reads no year

None of the guides read for this page publishes a way to read a year from the number, and the decoder gives none.

The guides that describe the number give its length and its layout. None of those read for this page gives a rule that turns any part of it into a year, a month or a season.

The guides do put years on two fabric tags, the hologram and the RFID tag. Those years are set out below, one guide to a row, because the guides do not agree.

The iPhone app works to the same limit. It names a Fendi family from photographs and gives no reading of a Fendi number or tag.

The hologram and the RFID tag

The guides also describe a fabric tag inside the bag. On some bags it holds a hologram sticker and on others an RFID chip. Where a guide gives a start year, it is in that guide's own row.

The first four rows are one family of guides and the next two share a text, so the matching years are fewer voices than they look.

The guides do not agree on when the hologram stopped. The Vintage Bar, Love That Bag etc and Posh Bag Boutique say the RFID tag replaced it. The text Jewel Cafe and EcoRing Indonesia share puts a changeover in 2015, and The RealReal says only that some pieces have an RFID tag.

These are the guides' dates for the tags, not a date for any one bag. The Fendi pages read for this page mention neither tag, and the decoder gives no period.

Older bags, and bags with no number

The guides disagree on when Fendi began numbering bags, so each has its own line here. The Vintage Bar, Love That Bag etc and Posh Bag Boutique say 1980, The Luxury Closet says the 1980s, and OPA Vintage starts finding a number in all Fendi bags from the beginning of the 1990s.

For that reason this page gives no first year for Fendi numbers, and the decoder gives no period for any number.

A bag can also have no number left to read. The Vintage Bar says the metallic foil on older styles can rub or flake off with use, and Luxbags says a number printed on the zip pocket may become unclear. A missing number does not date a bag on its own, and it does not show whether a bag is genuine.

The Vintage Bar
A serial number on each bag since 1980, and none on bags produced before then. On older styles it is printed in metallic foil on the lining of the interior pocket.
Love That Bag etc
Bags produced before 1980 have no serial number.
Posh Bag Boutique
Bags made before 1980 have no serial number.
The Luxury Closet
Serial numbers were introduced in the 1980s, so an earlier model would not have one.
Luxbags
Most bags made after the 1980s have a serial number. On older models it is printed on the interior zip pocket.
OPA Vintage
It starts finding serial references in all Fendi bags from the beginning of the 1990s, and says vintage bags from then to the early 2000s should have 6 to 8 digits, 12 digits or 16 digits.

Other numbers on a Fendi bag

A Fendi bag can carry or come with several other numbers. The decoder recognises two of them by their layout, a Product Code copied from fendi.com and a run of eight digits, and says which one it looks like instead of splitting it.

Some guides call the characters on the hologram tag a serial number too. This page keeps the term for the number on leather, the one the guides give a length and a layout for.

  1. Characters under the hologram

    On a square fabric tag

The Vintage Bar describes a hologram sticker on a square fabric tag stitched to the lining, with a series of letters and numbers below it. Posh Bag Boutique describes a sequence of numbers, or numbers and letters, in the same place.

Love That Bag etc, The RealReal and The Luxury Closet call what is on that tag a serial number. None of the guides read for this page says what the characters mean or whether they repeat the number on leather.

  2. Eight digits on the RFID tag

On a fabric tag with a chip inside

The Vintage Bar, Posh Bag Boutique and Real Authentication describe a fabric tag with eight digits sewn into it and a chip inside. The guides read for this page do not explain the digits.

Some guides say a Fendi store may be able to read the chip, and they are not equally sure. The Vintage Bar says it can be scanned at any Fendi store. Love That Bag etc says only that it can likely be checked in a Fendi shop, and Jewel Cafe says a store can do it in some cases. The Fendi pages read for this page do not mention the tag, and this page does not say a store will read one.

  3. Product Code on fendi.com

15 letters and digits, no spaces

A Fendi product page prints a line headed Product Code, followed by 15 letters and digits with no spaces. The Australian Fendi product page for the same bag prints the same line. Fendi does not say there what the parts mean, and this page does not interpret them.

On the Fendi bag pages read for this page, the code opens with one digit, two letters and three digits. The group OPA Vintage calls the model number has the same shape. The Fendi pages read do not say the two are related.

  4. Paper card

A card that comes with a bag

Madison Avenue Couture and EcoRing Indonesia describe a card that lists the serial number with the model, the colour and a barcode. Madison Avenue Couture calls such cards paper tags that are easy to duplicate.

OPA Vintage shows a shop card with a number marked ART. On two bags it dates to 2008, the start of that number matches the middle part of the number in the bag.

Four other numbers that can come with a Fendi bag. Drawn for this page, with no house lettering. Every number shown is made up.

Can you look a Fendi serial number up?

The Fendi pages read for this page describe no serial number lookup. The Fendi authenticity page, the Fendi page on spotting counterfeits and the Fendi FAQ do not mention a serial number, a hologram or an RFID tag. The Australian Fendi authenticity page and the Australian Fendi FAQ do not either. All were read on 5 October 2026.

The one search the Fendi FAQ describes is of its own website. It says a specific item can be found by keywords or product code. The FAQ does not describe that search as a way to check a number from a bag.

What Fendi does say is where its products are sold. Its authenticity page says they are available exclusively through its website, its boutiques and select authorised retailers, and its counterfeits page offers to answer questions about an online vendor through Client Services. The Fendi terms of sale and the Australian Fendi terms of sale guarantee the authenticity of products sold on its website.

EcoRing Indonesia says to search the style number online to see that it matches the bag design. This page does not say what a search result means for a particular bag.

The decoder on this page looks nothing up. It splits the number you type into its groups and reports what the guides call one of them.

What a serial number does not tell you

A year
None of the guides read for this page publishes a way to read a year, a month or a season from the number, and this page gives none.
What the other groups mean
OPA Vintage and EcoRing Indonesia put a name to one group. None of the guides read for this page says what the others mean, and this page does not guess.
Which model it is
OPA Vintage calls one group the model number, and EcoRing Indonesia says to search the style number online. This page does not match a code to a model, and the decoder names none.
Whether the bag is genuine
The Vintage Bar says most counterfeiters include a serial number, so its presence does not guarantee a bag's authenticity.
More than the app names
The “What can we identify?” sheet in Vintage Handbag Identifier lists Fendi at a family only. A photo result names a family, and the app holds no catalogue records for Fendi.

Questions about Fendi serial numbers

How do I read a Fendi serial number?

Start with where it is. On newer styles The Vintage Bar places it on the back of the interior brand tag or on a narrow leather tag. The Vintage Bar, Love That Bag etc and Madison Avenue Couture describe 15 to 17 characters, and The Vintage Bar says the groups are separated by dots or dashes. On two bags it dates to 2008, OPA Vintage shows the middle part of the number matching the start of the number marked ART on the shop card, and calls it the model number. EcoRing Indonesia says the first six characters are the style number. None of the guides read for this page says what the other groups mean.

Can I look up a Fendi serial number?

The Fendi pages read for this page describe no serial number lookup. Fendi's authenticity pages and FAQ do not mention a serial number, on the US and Australian sites as read on 5 October 2026. The one search the Fendi FAQ describes is of its website, by keywords or product code, to find a specific item. The decoder here looks nothing up. It splits the number you type into its groups.

What year is my Fendi bag from its serial number?

The number does not say, as far as the guides read for this page go. None of them publishes a way to read a year, a month or a season from a Fendi serial number, and the decoder gives none.

Why does my Fendi bag have no serial number?

Look at the lining of the interior pocket first. The Vintage Bar says older styles carry the number there in metallic foil, which can rub or flake off with use, and Luxbags says a number printed on the zip pocket may become unclear. The guides also say the earliest bags had none, and disagree on when numbering began: The Vintage Bar, Love That Bag etc and Posh Bag Boutique say 1980, The Luxury Closet says the 1980s, and OPA Vintage starts finding a number in all Fendi bags from the beginning of the 1990s. A missing number does not date a bag on its own, and it does not show whether a bag is genuine.

Sources: The Vintage Bar, Luxbags, Love That Bag etc, Posh Bag Boutique, The Luxury Closet, OPA Vintage.

Is the number on the hologram or RFID tag the serial number?

Some guides call the characters on the hologram tag a serial number too. Love That Bag etc and The Luxury Closet use the term for what is on the hologram tag. They are on a fabric tag, separate from the number on leather, and none of the guides read for this page says what they mean or whether they repeat that number. The Vintage Bar and Posh Bag Boutique describe eight digits on the RFID tag and do not explain them.

Sources: Love That Bag etc, The Luxury Closet, The Vintage Bar, Posh Bag Boutique.

Can a serial number prove a Fendi bag is authentic?

No. The Vintage Bar says most counterfeiters include a serial number, so its presence does not guarantee a bag's authenticity. Madison Avenue Couture says the card that comes with a bag is a paper tag that is easy to duplicate. Fendi's terms of sale guarantee the authenticity of products sold on its website, and its authenticity page says its products are available exclusively through its website, its boutiques and select authorised retailers. A decoded number is not proof that a bag is genuine, and it is not an appraisal.
